Weekend Update:

Convenient Bathrooms

The most prevalent bathroom trend is simply to be bigger and better. Bathroom remodeling remains one of the most common home improvement projects, and there’s no end in sight.  Today’s bathrooms are no longer utilitarian, but a showroom of their own.  These remodels can include knocking out walls to create more space or simply replacing the bathroom accessories. . . which is what we will focus on today.

In the bathroom, one is either in a hurry, or has all the time in the world to relax.  In either case, the goal is convienience.  To reach your convenience goal, there’s one word to keep in mind.  Declutter.  A place for everything and everything in it’s place. Bathroom design is about maximizing the use of the given space neatly and with the most asthetic accessories available.

Shower Basket

Let’s start with the shower/tub area.  Those bottles of shampoo and soap are consistantly being knocked over and wasted.  And finally, no sticky messy soap rings at the corner of the tub to scrub up.  Decluttering is the answer! Depending on the size of your family and the ages of the children, corner baskets are an excellent decluttering choice for the shower, and make things so much neater looking.  Place one for each individual adult higher up, and one for each child about half way down.  This enables each family member their own individual amount of convienience when reaching for the soap, shampoo, or conditioner.  If you use bar soap, a soap basket or dish at either end of the tub is helpful as well.  We must always be aware of safety, so consider placing a new grab bar in the shower/tub area.  For the finishing touch, a couple of well placed hooks to help those puffy scrubbys to dry well are nice.

Since we’re on a quest for convenience, let’s examin the difference between towel bars and hooks.  Towel bars are excellent for displaying your lovely bathroom linens.  Towel Hooks, which look just as nice in my humble opinion, are more convenient.  There’s no folding.  Just hook and go!  But if you just don’t want to give up your towel bar, you’re in luck. . . choose a towel bar with hooks!

Robe hooks are a must for decluttering and convenience.  Choose individual hooks for each person (remembering to place the hooks for the children at a lower level).  Again, this individualism helps afford each member of the family that sense of belonging.  Be sure to look through all the choices – you might be surprised at the styles available.  If you don’t prefer that look, multi-hook plaque type robe hook would be your choice.  Hooks are an excellent way to express your sense of style, and put those extra touches to your decor that make the entire picture complete.
