Spring Sprucing
It’s April. Spring brings the refreshing feeling of new life, and the ability to finally get outside again! WHEW – what a relief! It was a long winter. When you start breathing in that spring air, it magically re-awakens something in the brain that makes you want to spruce things up. Getting rid of the winter residue and decay suddenly becomes a priority.
Don’t neglect the enjoyment of the spring to the fullest, but take a few moments to look ahead. Look . . . out there on the patio! Can you see your friends enjoying your perfectly bar-b-qued babyback ribs, laughing with one another, and sipping slowly from their favorite drink? Ahhh. . . those warm summer evenings are a staple of life we never want to do without.
You want to do everything you can to make sure your best friends, business associates, and family are as comfortable as possible at your house. Now is the time to start making that a reality. Sprucing up starts in the details. The small stuff. Those special touches that bring the entire picture all together.
Let’s start with the patio door. That patio door could use some sprucing up, eh? How about a new door pull to freshen up the patio door? Of course the shiny new door pull makes the hinges look a bit tacky, so you might as well spruce it all at once. If your patio door has glass, consider replacing the calking around the window panes to brighten up the overall look. If your patio door is screened, new screen is inexpensive and can make all the difference. Colored screening is available to add even more excitement to your patio area. Finally, for safety reasons, install a matching barrel bolt to the top of the door.
That weathered light fixture needs to be dealt with as well. Choose one that expresses the style of your home, yet is noticible. Make it match the new door pull and hinges for a complete look, or go ecclectic and choose something outrageous!
Speaking of being ecclectic, have you ever considered using door knockers as decoration? Not necessarily the round hoop type, but the less traditional ones, such as the one pictured on the left. When using door knockers as decoration, don’t place them on the door itself necessarily, but on the exterior walls near the door or windows. Consider a nicely arranged collage of frogs, an array of butterflys, or almost anything you desire! Take a few moments to look though the many choices Knobs, Hinges, & More has available by following this link directly to the door knockers. There are many lovely and exciting styles to choose from, and good decor is always a right choice, even on the patio. And won’t people just be so impressed with your decorating savy when they find out it’s a door knocker you’ve so eloquently used to complete your spring spruce up!
